📝 N64 vs 3DS layout — read this before you panic

On N64 the four melody buttons are the yellow C-buttons (C-up / C-down / C-left / C-right) plus A for the centre note. The 3DS / Switch remake maps the same five notes to the touchscreen and face buttons, so a sequence like R A D R A D (Song of Time) plays the identical melody — only the physical button you press changes. The Song Player tool toggles between both layouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the buttons for the Song of Time?
On N64 it’s C-right, A, C-down, C-right, A, C-down (shown compactly as R A D R A D). On 3DS the same five notes are mapped to the touch ocarina. You learn it from Princess Zelda’s message / the Temple of Time, and it opens the Door of Time.
How do I play the Song of Storms?
The note sequence is A, C-down, C-up, A, C-down, C-up (A D U A D U). You learn it from the Phonogram Man (the windmill man) in Kakariko Village as an adult, then teach it to your child self. It drains wells and makes soil spots sprout.
What order do I learn the songs in?
Roughly: Zelda’s Lullaby and Saria’s Song early as a child, then Epona’s Song, Sun’s Song, Song of Time and Song of Storms. The six warp songs are learned from the Sheik/sage cues as you reach each adult-era temple region.
How do I get Epona’s Song?
Malon teaches you Epona’s Song at Lon Lon Ranch as a child (U L R U L R). As an adult, playing it near the ranch calls the grown Epona so you can ride and jump the fences.
