Regions & Locations

Quick Answer

Hyrule in Ocarina of Time is built from nine major regions linked by Hyrule Field — from Kokiri Forest to the Gerudo Desert. Most appear in both the child and adult eras, and many change dramatically once Ganondorf takes power. Each region below lists its key NPCs, its dungeon and what it connects to.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Death Mountain?
Reach Kakariko Village from Hyrule Field, then take the trail up behind the village. As a child you need Zelda's letter to pass the guard at the gate; the Goron Tunic protects you from the heat near the crater.
How do I get to Gerudo Valley?
Gerudo Valley is at the far west of Hyrule Field. As adult Link you cross the broken bridge by riding Epona and jumping the gap, or use the Longshot. You then need the Gerudo Membership Card to pass the fortress.
How does Hyrule change between child and adult Link?
After the seven-year time skip Ganondorf rules Hyrule: Kokiri Forest fills with monsters, Castle Town is a ruined Market crawling with ReDeads, Zora's Domain is frozen solid, and Lake Hylia is nearly drained. Clearing each temple begins to restore the land.
What connects all the regions?
Hyrule Field is the central hub that borders every region. The warp songs you learn from Sheik also let you teleport directly to six key locations, which speeds up backtracking between eras.
