💡 N64 vs 3DS layout

The two control schemes map the same five notes differently. On N64 the notes live on the C-buttons plus A; on 3DS / Switch they sit on the face buttons and shoulders. The sequences are identical in pitch — only the button labels change, which is why the player above lets you toggle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play the Song of Storms?
On N64 the Song of Storms is A, Down, Up, A, Down, Up; on 3DS / Switch it is L, R, A, L, R, A. You learn it as an adult from Guru-Guru, the windmill man in Kakariko Village. It summons rain, which fills dry wells and spins the windmill.
What are the Song of Time buttons?
The Song of Time is Right, A, Down, Right, A, Down on N64 and Y, L, R, Y, L, R on 3DS. Princess Zelda teaches it at the Castle Town moat once you have all three Spiritual Stones, and it opens the Door of Time and moves blue Time Blocks.
Do the song notes differ between N64 and 3DS?
The melodies are identical, but the button labels differ. N64 uses the four C-buttons plus A; the 3DS and Switch ports remap those same five notes onto the face buttons and shoulders. Use the toggle in the player above to see whichever layout matches your controller.
Is there an ocarina finger chart for real ocarinas?
This tool shows the in-game note sequence rather than physical fingerings, but the five notes (A, Down/F, Right/B, Left/A, Up/D-style) map cleanly onto a 12-hole ocarina. Match each highlighted note in the player to your instrument’s tab to play any tune by ear.
How do I learn the Scarecrow’s Song?
The Scarecrow’s Song is the one exception — it has no fixed sequence. As a child you compose any 8-note tune and teach it to Bonooru at Lake Hylia, then replay the same tune as an adult to summon Pierre the scarecrow as a platform.
